Playing tips

Yes, the intro is played by organ while the acoustic guitar enters slightly
later and keeps playing D chord. Nevertheless, I like playing the
organ-like sequence with guitar.

D               x x 0 2 3 2
Dm(no 3rd)      x x 0 2 3 0
Dm              x x 0 2 3 1
Dsus4           x x 0 2 3 3
D9              x x 0 2 1 0

INTRO:
{ D  Dm(no 3rd)  Dm  Dsus4 } x11    { D   Em   G   D }  x2

VERSE:
D                  Em
  I am the suck of air you take

             G                D
that you've had many times before;

D                     Em
  I am the blow you try to fake,

            G                       D
but which still throws you out the door;

D                    Em
  I am the air that fills your lungs,

     G                    D
but leaves you emptier below;

D                         Em
  I am the void that you can't explain,

               G                D       Dm   Dm(no 3rd)  D9  D
but which is where you want to go.

BRIDGE:
Cm                        D
  Flame sucks between the   balls of steel;

Cm                              D
  nothing moves, the air itself congeals.

CHORUS:
 Bm                       C
Look at the flame if you want to,

 Bm                          C
hear the sharp crack of the fission,

  Bm                      C
smell the brief vapour of ozone,

 Bm          A  A
feel static motion.

D                     Em
  I am the love you try to hide,

          G              D
but which all can understand;

D                     Em
  I am the hate you still deny,

             G                D
though the blood is on your hands;

D                        Em
  I am the peace you're searching for,

          G                D
but you know you'll never find;

D                     Em
  I am the pain you can't endure,

           G               D
but which tingles in your mind.

BRIDGE:
Cm                        D
  Flame sucks between the   balls of steel;

Cm                              D
  nothing moves, the air itself congeals.

CHORUS:
 Bm                       C
Look at the flame if you want to,

 Bm                          C
hear the sharp crack of the fission,

 Bm                       C
smell the brief vapour of ozone,

 Bm          A  A
feel static motion.

INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE IN D:

D                   Em
  I am the joy you really pay for,

           G                 D
but which comes completely free;

D                       Em
  I am your god on the final day,

          G               D
for the truth is you are me...

INSTRUMENTAL CHORUS:

INSTRUMENTAL VERSE (without { Cm D Cm D } ending)
